LaCie intros 500GB NAS

LaCie on Wednesday announced it will soon release the Network Space network attached storage (NAS) and media server, available in 500GB and 1TB capacities. The device, designed by Neil Poulton, is ready to be used with network-connected Windows or Mac PCs right away via its Gigabit Ethernet port. The Network Space will also stream multimedia files via DLNA-compatible media players, including the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.

LaCie will ship the Network Space formatted with two separate shares, including an open public share and a password-protected private one. The company's Network Agent software is included to allow easier and quicker access to its contents, which can be uploaded or downloaded via the 8MB cache. A single USB 2.0 port on the front panel lets users plug in portable devices such as digital cameras and view their contents. Remote access is possible via a static FTP address, according to the company.

The 500GB LaCie Network Space will be priced at $150 when it launches in Europe early in September and worldwide in October. No prices have been announced for the 1TB drive.
