News from SIGGRAPH 2008

In SIGGRAPH news, DAZ 3D has announced its ARENA Real-Time Mocap plug-in for DAZ Studio, bringing motion capture to the 3D animation tool. Also at SIGGRAPH, Andersson Technologies' camera tracking software SynthEyes 2008 has been upgraded for 8-core compatibility.

Architosh News is reporting that DAZ Studio's new plug-in, introduced at SIGGRAPH 2008, will bring full body and facial capture, rendering and real-time workflow pre-visualization to the Animation software. The free plug-in provides motion capture abilities that typically costs tens of thousands of dollars to the free DAZ Studio 3D. It requires Mac OS X 10.3 and above, with a minimum of a 1GHz processor and 1GB RAM recommended. It also recommends driver-support for OpenGL 1.3

Adding multi-threaded 8-core compatibility to SynthEyes 2008 offers a 3-5x speed jump for Mac Pro 8-core users. SynthEyes exports tracking information to 25 common animation/compositing programs and retails for $400. It requires 1GB RAM, with 4GB RAM strongly recommended for 8-core machines, and Mac OS X 10.4 or higher (Mac OS X 10.5.3 or higher for 4-core and 8-core users running Leopard).

SIGGRAPH 2008, a computer graphics and interactive technologies conference in Los Angeles, Ca. ran August 11-15. It was the 35th year of the conference.
