Flyer confirms price cuts to all Xbox 360s

Flyer Shows X360 Price Cut

A new flyer spotted late Wednesday by Joystiq readers suggests Microsoft will slash prices for all its Xbox 360 consoles by $50 or more. Electronics retailer Radio Shack's September 7th flyer is now listing the Xbox 360 Elite for $400, or $50 below its official price today; the just-introduced 60GB Xbox 360 Pro will already be taking a price cut to $300, while the Xbox 360 Arcade would be the first current-generation console to drop below $250 and would sell for $200.

Separate retail sources are also said to have confirmed the price cuts on their own, the report claims.

The apparently likely move would confirm previous rumors as well as many industry suspicions that the $350 starting price for the 60GB Xbox was only a temporary figure meant to encourage sales of the discontinued 20GB model until the higher capacity system could take its place.

Microsoft's gesture is also likely to create a much wider gap between its gaming lineup and Sony's. The latter's least expensive system is a $400 80GB PlayStation 3 and was complemented on Wednesday by a $500 160GB model, leaving only the Xbox 360 Elite with any form of direct price overlap.
