Apple applies for iDisk, Macintosh trademarks

iDisk, Mac trademarks

Apple has applied for two new additions to its trademark pool, filings show. The first is simply entitled iDisk, and covers the online file storage system first debuted through .Mac, and more recently continued with the advent of MobileMe. A successful trademark would be listed under International Class 042, and Apple cites its iDisk website as evidence of commercial use.

More unusual is the company's desire to expand on the Macintosh trademark, which it has held in some form for a long time. Through the European Union, Apple has filed to extend to International Classes 016, 038, 041 and 042, which if granted would greatly expand Apple's control of the Mac name. Class 038 in particular would cover a multitude of telecommunications technologies, from regular phone and Internet connections through TV, radio and other transmission means.

    Wrong

"...iDisk, and covers the online file storage system first debuted through .Mac..."

Wrong. It debuted with iTools in 1999.
