Kensington offers Wireless USB video dock

updated 01:55 pm EDT, Mon August 18, 2008

Kensington WUSB Dock

Kensington today unveiled what it believes is the first genuinely universal Wireless USB dock. The simply-titled Wireless USB Docking Station connects to any computer that supports Wireless USB, whether internally or through an adapter, and provides enough connections to serve as a full stand-in for a wired dock without the extra cables; the device can output a DVI video signal up to the 1680x1050 of most 20-inch displays and has five USB ports as well as a stereo minijack for external speakers.

Enough bandwidth is available over the wireless link to drive an external hard drive alongside usual peripherals, Kensington says. The short-range wireless format works up to about 15 feet away from the hub.

The device ships by the end of the month for $230 both through Kensington's own shop in addition to Dell. The company so far offers drivers of its own only for Windows XP and Vista, though it notes that all Wireless USB-based PCs should support the add-on.

    yeah well...

"The company so far offers drivers of its own only for Windows XP and Vista, though it notes that all Wireless USB-based PCs should support the add-on."

This is also a current gripe of mine as well - seeing as how MacNN does this quite regularly.

But also - as someone who edits video regularly - I dread the thought of using anything USB to stream video much less making the USB Wireless.
