Apple credits 60 days to MobileMe users, apologizes
After a brief silence, Apple on Monday acknowledged the many issues plaguing its MobileMe suite of online services, offering users a free 60-day extension for past problems, as well as a concerted effort to continually improve. Echoing words from CEO Steve Jobs to Apple staff, the message notes that the newly helmed MobileMe team is dedicated to providing a service that "we can all be proud of." Apple has already credited users one month for prior issues which were claimed to have been resolved.
"We know that MobileMe's launch has not been our finest hour, and we truly appreciate your patience as we turn this around," reads the note.
A linked page further explains Apple's motivations and methodology for the extension, noting that since the service has not been, and is still not up to, its standards, the company hopes that the offering will appease users currently experiencing problems.
It goes on to mention conditions under which the extension is applied. Apple says that the offer will apply to any account that was active August 19, at midnight PST. The page also lists concerns for different account types, and addresses each issue.

Not sure about those chaps who relied upon .Mac or .Me mail service though. If I did I would switch email provider after the first fail.

30 days plus 60 days should bring me to an expiration in January 2009, not December 2008. I'll give Apple a few days to fix this. If it's not fixed shortly, I'm gonna call Apple Customer Relations at 1-800-767-2775and tell them to credit me the complete 90 day extension for what we're not getting anymore. I'm all for Apple's breakneck progress. But I just love the acceptance so many people have given by paying $100 for a service, and then, mid-way through, have the entire service change, lose several features, deal with incomplete replacements, and go on like "Oh, well, its the price of moving forward!".

I think it was very decent of Apple to do this. I just wish they would fess up to problems more often. Even if they don't compensate, if they could just admit to well known issues and say they are being worked on, it would be appreciated so much.

I agree that the iCards should not have gone away without notice. However, it may or may not have been in the pre-MobileMe service agreement that the services offered could change without notice. If anyone has a copy of the pre-Mobile me agreement, please send me a copy.
Testudo, is your goal in life to bounce around and stir up anti-Apple sentiment. I see you on many forums and your lines are all the same. This is under the assumption that the same person is using the "testudo" user name.

Based on that logic, then they've got no problem with anything. They just tell people "We're pulling our mail service and that's why you can't get mail".
And I wonder if Apple also says "We hold the right to end support for your OS at our discretion, so you better start thinking of buying a newer computer, you no good Panther users!"

I maintain that the main reason Apple got rid of iCards was because it WAS part of .Mac and Apple wanted to get rid of as many .Mac products it could get away with for branding reasons.
Yes, anyone could use iCards for free, but it was being subsidized by our $99 dotMac subscriptions the entire time. That being the case, I resent Apple taking away something I PAID FOR.
