Third-gen PSP at FCC

Sony's rumored third-generation PSP may be real, new filings suggest. A new version of Sony's gaming handheld has appeared at the FCC, where it has undergone testing for its wireless components. All new wireless products in the US must undergo safety and interference testing at the FCC, even if they are only minor revisions of an existing device. The PSP uses 802.11b Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet or a PS3.

The version at the FCC uses a "PSP-3001" designation, in contrast to the expected 3000 iteration. Diagrams also fail to reveal any of the rumored changes, such as a new microphone below the LCD, or a relabeled Home button. Other changes are expected to include a thinner body and a subtler ring design on the back. The new PSP may already be in production for the holiday season.

    3rd Iteration

I know this may seem picky, bu how is this the 'third generation' PSP? Wouldn't it be more correct to say 'third revision' (or in fact, 'second revision'). I would think that we should be saving the term 'generation' for when a device is completely revised, not just tweaked. (Case in point, iPhone 3G is really only a first revision - Apple's own identifiers mark it as 1,2) - it is NOT a 'second generation' device.
