Highpoing SAS RAID

HighPoint Technologies has unveiled the RocketRAID 4320 SAS RAID Controller. This hardware, featuring the Intel Xscale IOP348 at 1.2GHz, was designed by HighPoint to meet the scalability, performance, reliability, and manageability requirements for enterprise. RocketRAID 4320 is a PCI-Express x8 SAS RAID controller capable of supporting eight SAS/SATA hard drives. HighPoint claims transfer rates over 1004MB/s read and 913MB/s write using their second generation "TerabyteArchitecture".

HighPoint developed the second generation TerabyteArchitecture to maximize the capabilities of the Intel Xscale IOP348 processor. Hard drive health status is monitored and alerts sent for potential failures. Data will be preserved during unexpected power failure using a battery backup and write journaling. Drives can be configured for staggered spinup and automatically spun down when the array is idle. Up to 128 total hard drives can be added with the use of optional expanders.

The RAID module is embedded into Linux kernel 2.6.25 and back ported into Red Hat Enterprise 5.2. Microsoft WHQL drivers are available for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. RocketRAID 4320 is also compatible with Windows 2000, XP, x64, 2003, and Mac OS X 10.4.x and above.
