Sheraton adopts Surface at five US hotels

updated 12:25 am EDT, Wed August 13, 2008

Surface in Sheraton hotels

Microsoft's highly talked-about Surface technology, previously known to exist in AT&T stores and Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, is now being adopted at five Sheraton Hotel and Resort locations, in New York, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco. The Sheraton locations will take advantage of the multi-touch Surface to provide travel and activity itineraries, musical entertainment from featured Sony BMG artists, and photo libraries from Sheraton hotels around the world.

"Sheraton is redefining the hospitality experience by offering our guests technology that will allow them to interact with each other and our hotel in a revolutionary way," said Hoyt H. Harper II, senior vice president for Sheraton. "We are proud to partner with Microsoft to offer the groundbreaking Microsoft Surface product, which will enable our guests to stay informed, connected and entertained while traveling."

Sheraton will offer a 30-inch display for the custom Surface's interface. CityTips will offer guests an at-a-glance view of various entertainment, shopping, and meal venues, superimposed on a satellite view of the city. It will also include walkable or drivable routes from the hotel to these locations.

Sounds of Sheraton will feature a selection of music artists exclusive to the hotel chain, such as John Legend, Kenny Chesney, and Lauryn Hill, offering jukebox-like functionality for guests in the lobby.
