Nielsen Online says Apple remained 10th on its list of top online brands in July, a slight increase over june. The research firm says 51.7 million unique users visited an Apple-owned website or used Apple software in July, up from 49.9 million in June. Apple also finished 10th on Nielsen's list of Top Parent Companies/Divisions.
Nielsen -- known for its venerable television ratings business -- says Google remains the top online brand, followed by Microsoft, Yahoo, Time Warner and News Corp. Online. Google posted 129 million unique visitors in July, with an average user spending nearly two hours on the site or using Google products. Apple users spend about an hour and 12 minutes, an increase of four minutes from June.
The latest Nielsen figures reveal some interesting facts about Americans' overall internet usage. On average, each person visited the internet 59 times in July, viewing an astounding 2,431 web pages. On average, users spent about 50 seconds at each page and a total of nearly 68 hours at their Macs or PCs. Men spend an average of 71 hours of "pc time" a month; women spend about 65 hours.

Just exactly how do Nielsen know the age and gender of 52,000,000 anonymous net users? Of course they don't, these "statistics" are upscaled from far, far smaller samplings and are as close to meaningless as a Bush election promise!
