Soundmatters adds SLIMstage40 speaker bar to range

updated 04:00 pm EDT, Tue August 12, 2008

SLIMstage40 speaker bar

Soundmatters recently unveiled the newest addition to its SLIMstage series of all-in-one speaker systems, the SLIMstage40. The speaker features eight internal amplifiers to achieve its 170W power rating, and uses imaging to provide a listening experience to mimic a 5.1-speaker set-up. As everything down to the control unit and remote control is part of the 3.3-inch high unit, which houses 13 separate drivers, there is no need for an additional A/V receiver. A subwoofer is also optional, but not required, according to Soundmatters.

What makes the SLIMstage40 different from similar competing products is its reliance on walls to reflect its sound waves and thereby create a surround sound-like experience. This is credited to the Euphony HD 5.1 surround processing developed in conjunction with DiMAGIC, which also allows for Dolby Digital Surround and DTS Digital Surround decoding. The SLIMstage40 has two optical and one digital inputs and three analog inputs, including a front-mounted MP3 player connection, to integrate it to users' home theater set-ups.

Nine of the 13 speakers are responsible for bass reproduction, which can reach as low as 45Hz. Three Extreme-Energy subs fire downwards, into the floor, to achieve the desired effect.

The SLIMstage40 can be purchased now, priced at $899 or $1199 with the optional SUBstage100 subwoofer.
