Microsoft has announced that users who buy a Mac computer before September 8th are eligible a special 30 percent discount on Office 2008 for Mac. The offer applies to all three versions of the Office 2008 suite -- standard, Special Media and Home & Student -- allowing customers to save between $15 and $150 on their purchase. a discount is nice but...

there is nothing more frustrating than trying to use word 2008 on a daily basis. other than the awful incompatibilities with spaces, my text cursor disappears often. there are serious usability issues with word 2008, and a discount is not going to fix things.

    bad word

Word 2008 is only the second version of Word I've skipped. I use Word 2004 regularly, and I like it enough to put up with its annoyances (though I curse at it a lot), but Word 2008 is just really bad software - the interface changes are awful.

The really cheap price of Word 2008 (compared to old versions of Word) says a lot - it's a stinker.

    miserable, slow, unstable

On an Intel iMac, any of the Office 2008 apps are considerably slower than their Office 2004 versions. So why "upgrade"? Well, the 2008 apps are not only slower, they're also unstable. Can't I say something good about them? Sure; their interface is not as bad as any of the Office 2007 apps for Windows.

How do you get Office to be better? Roz Ho. Remember her? Get her back and jettison Steve Ballmer.
