Sudden MobileMe mail outage, Apple mum

MobileMe mail out
Reports are coming in from MobileMe users who cannot access email. Two MacNN writers said their mail stopped working Monday afternoon. A check of MobileMe webmail revealed a message reading: "Your MobileMe mail is currently unavailable." Apple's MobileMe status page, however, said all MobileMe functions were "operational." Even the special status blog set up amid Mobile Me's rocky launch has not been updated in nearly two weeks. Other users are reporting similar problems.
MobileMe has indeed suffered growing pains. Even CEO Steve Jobs admits MobileMe was "not up to Apple's Standards" at launch. A check of the "sytem status recent history" page shows outages still occurring on a consistent basis. The most recent report from August 9 said some users were unable to access MobileMe web apps due to "scheduled maintenance." Over the past two weeks, some members have had problems signing in, adjusting preferences on Windows machines, publishing from MobileMe, editing or pushing contacts, using "Back to My Mac" and host of other features.
There's no word as to how widespread the latest MobileMe Mail outage may be.

mobileme sucks
I used this service for a while now - and it really sucks!
Since I don't even need all those features, I configured my own domain for use with Google Apps. XMPP (=Google Talk) and IMAP Mail work like charm! The only missing "link" was a solution which allows me to sync my addressbooks between my Macbook and my iMac - but I found a software called fruux - which also works like charm and it's free. Apple should probably just drop MobileMe, design nice hardware and build nice operating systems - it really looks like they have no idea howto run good webservices.
