Apple seeding new Mac OS X 10.5.5 build

updated 09:15 am EDT, Fri August 8, 2008

New Mac OS X 10.5.5 build

A new test build of Mac OS X 10.5.5 is being seeded to developers, sources indicate to AppleInsider. The v10.5.5 update is expected to almost exclusively address bug fixes and security issues, and has so far solved errors in Address Book printing, the display of IMAP accounts in Mail, and contact and calendar sync. The latest build is titled 9F9, and is said to have increased the number of bug fixes to over 100, and the amount of core components under scrutiny to 24.

Areas with new fixes include Directory Services, Fonts, mDNSResponder, Screen Sharing and X11. The build is also said to be safe to install on Macs with integrated graphics, instead of just those with dedicated graphics cards. The final release of v10.5.5 is expected in October, and may be timed to coincide with the release of redesigned MacBooks.

    October???

Interesting that MacNN are now suggesting new laptops in October rather than September (I pointed out in a response that Apple haven't unveiled a laptop in September since 2003). In terms of recent history, September is iPod and MacMini month! It would be cruel to unveil a new laptop one month after their back to school campaign... but two months is fine!!!
