Nokia E71 now in the US

Nokia on Tuesday announced its highly-anticipated E71 smartphone is now available for purchase in the US with support for the country's GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and HSDPA 850/1900 voice networks as well as the crucial 850MHz HSDPA band for US 3G data access. The phone is billed as the thinnest equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard, at nearly 0.4 inches. The phone is able to quickly switch between business and personal modes, which switches the look and featured application set.

The E71 should appeal with features such as Wi-Fi, assisted GPS and comprehensive e-mail support. The integrated A-GPS feature, when combined with the included Nokia Maps 2.0 software, allows it to be used as a turn-by-turn navigation device.

The fixed QWERTY keyboard and 3.2-megapixel camera that can capture video out of the box are features the iPhone does not have. The Share on Ovi service gives users an easy way to upload photos and videos to the Internet.

The phone uses the Symbian S60 operating system, and includes support for real-time access to calendars, contacts, and Mail for Exchange and Intellisync enterprise-grade email support. The E71 allows VPN access for connecting to remote networks and sports VoIP support. The device has built-in encryption software for its on-board memory as well as the microSD memory card.

Sold as an unlocked phone, the new Nokia E71 is priced at about $500 and available online as well as in stores, including Nokia's flagship store in New York.
