CampTune: manage partitioning for Boot Camp

updated 10:25 pm EDT, Tue July 29, 2008

CampTune live partitions

Paragon Software Group on Tuesday unveiled CampTune, a new application designed to allow users to customize the size of their Boot Camp partition on their Macs, without having to start from scratch. CampTune can either increase or decrease the size of a Boot Camp partition, without losing data, allowing users to quickly shift free space depending on their priorities. CampTune is currently available as a free pre-release; Paragon did not announce how much it would be in the future.

“We took the first big step in breaking down these barriers with the introduction of Paragon’s NTFS for Mac OSX, which effectively solves the communication problems between Mac systems and NTFS," said Tom Fedro, president of Paragon Software Group. "The second step was our creation of Paragon’s Rescue Kit for Mac, which supports Intel-based Macs by backing up and restoring Windows OS or Mac OS. Now, with Paragon’s CampTune, we’ve addressed the free space redistribution problem between the two operating systems, making it simple and intuitive for dual-boot users.”

    won't touch it

Had bad experience with Paragon's partitioning tool for Windows (NTFS). Attempt to join two partitions into one (one with data and the other is empty) completely destroyed data on HDD. Was acting very carefully in complete accordance with Paragon's manual, and that wasn't the first time when I was performing this kind of operation. My last time with anything under the name of Paragon though.

Backup your data if you're gonna give it a try!

    Obviously

Obviously its a good idea to back-up all your data before you try to do a LIVE resize of your harddisk partitions with beta software.

    Good luck folks.
