    slow news day?

Whilst I am sure that Apple would be thankful for the free advertising, why exactly are MacNN listing the contents of the refurb section? Slow news day? Nothing better to do? Easier than going out and researching an actual story (or just plain nicking them as MacNN usually does!) ???

    Because they can?

They'll sometimes make announcements of refurb / special deal listings here. It's no big deal - I keep forgetting to check the deals section, so this is a nice reminder. Besides, I think they get some sort of referral bonus for it, due to the way the links look :)

    relax

calm down Feathers. I have an RSS feed for macnn and not the Apple store. since the refurb inventory varies.. it's nice to have this info handed to me instead of checking the store.

    Appreciate the RSS Deals

Thanks to sites like this, I've been able to snatch up highly-sought refurb items before they were are sold (happens in hours). With technologies like RSS, you can be sure to get updates as soon as possible. Maybe it's because efforts like these have saved me a ton of cash in the past, but I can honestly say I APPRECIATE MacNN posting stuff like this.

    not daily...

I accept the usefulness of the RSS feed... except that the "refurb" page changes daily if not hourly but MacNN only provide these reports intermittently, hence the question as to whether they only provide the information on a slow news day... rather than every day (which could be useful).

    A pattern?

The day that the iPhone 3G, MobileMe and the latest 2.0 software upgrade were released there was also a list of the latest refurb Apple deals. So my guess is that there is a regularity to this beyond the "its a slow news day" theory. It appears as if there are regular updates to the Apple deals just about twice a week, which, in all actuality the refurb stock doesn't change as drastically as you may think so twice a week is more than enough coverage to keep us informed of what is available.
