Apple promotes MobileMe rebates

Rebates are being offered to new MobileMe subscribers in select regions, Apple has announced. In the United States, between July 22nd and October 20th, people who have bought any type of Mac -- including MacBooks and Mac Pros -- will be eligible for a $30 discount on a standard one-year subscription, bringing the price down to $69. People wanting a Family Pack, which provides four sub-accounts, will also pay $30 less at $119.

A similar rebate is being offered in the UK, where the rebate is set at £15. There the offer additionally covers anyone picking up a .Mac retail box.

The discount may be timed to coincide with the beginning of the school sales season, but could also be an attempt to compensate for serious technical difficulties that have persisted since launch. Numerous major components were unavailable for days afterwards, and mail remains non-functional for approximately 1 percent of the public.

This is nothing new. Anyone who's bought a new Mac for the past few years has been offered a $30 rebate if they bought .Mac at the same time.

It's always been that way

This is nothing new, it's been going on for years. You've always had the option to purchase .mac/mobile me for $69 when you purchase a new mac. Great reporting there MacNN.

Or, just buy from Amazon with the single user for $69 or family for $99 with no rebate hassles. How Amazon can sell Apple's software cheaper then them always baffled me.

...but we long-time loyal Apple customers who have been without email for almost a week are offered nothing, not even an explanation or some clue about if/when we will get our email back.

Trash!

Mobile me is trash! I can't believe Apple released this junk, free email services are light-years ahead of this crap.

Ever since OS 9 I have read all these horror stories on OS upgrades, .Mac disasters, etc. etc. Yet I have NEVER had these problems. I think most of it is FUD paid for by M$. I haven't had any problems since the MobileMe conversion. I'm sure several have but not me.
