Apple and iPhone appeal

Ahead of Apple's earnings announcement, Nielsen Online on Monday sent out a compiled list of statistical data on the company, showing that overall brand awareness and iPhone users are up this quarter. Nielsen reveals that over the second quarter, web traffic to Apple.com grew 12-percent, from 44.3 million unique monthly impressions to 49.7 million, while total time spent on the website grew from 8.7 billion minutes to 10.1 billion over the course of the last year.

Web traffic to iTunes grew 12-percent from last year, with 36 million unique impressions, over 32.1 million in the second quarter of 2007. Potentially related is the overall saturation of the iPhone market, which showed 2.3 million US subscribers with the device, accounting for 1-percent of all embedded mobile phone users in the US. Nielsen also discovered the iPhone has the highest overall satisfaction rating among major smartphone manufacturers.

In related news, comScore Media Metrix recently evaluated the Top 50 Online Properties, finding that Apple has moved up two spaces from 12 to 10, which comScore credits to the popular iPhone 3G. Placing ahead of Apple were Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft, who clinched the top three spots, respectively.
