Visionman's Widow notebook

Visionman today released its new Widow Double Nine gaming notebook. The company claims the flagship offering is the first of its kind with NVIDIA's GeForce 9800M video chipset, support for up to 8GB of RAM and Intel's quad-core 9000-series CPU. The notebook otherwise features a 17-inch, 1680x1050 (WSGA+) resolution display and will support a secondary display. The chip, Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9450, is rated at 2.66GHz, and works with the standard 4GB of DDR2 memory for smoother gaming.

The Widow Double Nine is available with a single or dual SLI NVIDIA 9800M GT video cards, each rated at 512MB of GDDR3 memory. Visionman promises to start shipping versions of the notebook with GTX versions of NVIDIA's graphics cards next month. In terms of multimedia functionality, the newest Widow sports an optical audio output, DVI, VGA and S-Video outputs, a built-in microphone and four integrated speakers. A CATV input works with an optional TV Tuner module. Intel's High Definition 5.1-channel sound system is supported. Wireless connections for peripheral devices are made possible via Bluetooth support, while networking is handled by 802.11n Wi-Fi.

The onboard storage space comes via a 320GB SATAII hard drive, and the Widow Double Nine will support up to two others. The default OS is Microsoft's Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Other features include an integrated 2-megapixel camera, a 7-in-1 memory card reader, 8X DVD drive and an Express Card slot. A 12-cell lithium-ion battery powers it all.

The Widow notebook can now be purchased online and in stores, starting at $4,600, though Visionman can customize it with anything from solid state drives to extended warranties.
