iPod touch printer updates
Apple on Tuesday quietly unveiled the iPod touch 1.1.5 update, as well as an updated set of HP printer drivers for Mac OS X. Macworld reveals that the iPod touch update comes free for users, unlike the 2.0 update which costs $20, but doesn't appear to actually change anything on the device. Writer Christopher Breen notes that some users have found slight performance boosts, but suggests the effect could be largely placebo, since he compared side-by-side against a 1.1.4-enabled Touch, with no perceivable difference in performance.
Breen notes that to apply the iPod touch 1.1.5 update, users must connect to iTunes, and decline the paid 2.0 update. iPod touch 1.1.5 is then available for download.
HP Printer Driver 1.1 is similarly generic, in that Apple did not specifically announce what is different with the update. The driver most likely introduces support for newer models of HP printers, and is only visible if one is connected to the Mac in question.

Hopefully, these HP drivers fix some long standing issues with the current drivers. I haven't been able to print anything properly since 10.4.x.

Networked HP printers aren't recognized. Guess I'll go to the HP site.

I can't believe Apple is charging everyone for the Touch update. Apparently you can't even get a new touch with app support built in. You have to 'buy' it.

HP drivers suck

HP drivers suck. They stopped supporting my photosmart 7350, which was a good thing. Their driver stopped recognizing the printer if I turned it off and then back on after booting my computer (Imagine that!)and only worked if the printer was connected directly with USB. Since they stopped supporting it I've used the gutenprint drivers with Leopard and can not only print whenever I want, it works through my airport base station as well, and can even use the double sided attachment properly. Their current drivers don't work with shared windows printers, only direct connections or HP IPP only. Jerks.

Of course its not included with 'new' iPod touches.
The 2.0 update shipped on Saturday morning, while any iPod touch which is purchased right now, would have been manufactured weeks ago.
Yet, in January, they cut the price of existing iPod Touches in the channel $20 to make up for the missing software and all new iPod Touches came with the software.
If only Apple could go back in time and sort out this horrible issue for you.
Yes, because we know Apple had no way of knowing weeks ago that they were going to be updating the OS on these devices. Oh, wait, they did!
Sorry, I guess you're one of those people who just love paying out more money to Apple. Of course, maybe someone should make sure those Apple store employees know what's going on, because people have been told it will include it, bought the ipod, and found out its not there. And they can't return it either, since it is opened.
