Toshiba ships Qosmios

With announcements from HP, Lenovo, and Sony, Toshiba also took the opportunity to announce (and ship) new Centrino 2 versions of its recently announced notebooks for faster networking, better performance, and improved battery life. The Satellite Pro S300 laptop, updated with latest Core Duo processor and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, offers Toshiba's fourth-generation EasyGuard technology, sleep-and-charge USB ports, optional SSD/flash-memory drive configurations, built-in docking capabilities and Webcam with business card reader software (starts at $1,2993). For its business-oriented Tecra models, Toshiba is using Intel's Centrino 2 with vPro micro-architecture to manage and secure mobile workforces using hardware-assisted remote isolation, diagnostics and repair: the Tecra M10 has a starting MSRP of $1,399, while the Tecra A10 pricing has yet to be determined.

The company also announced that its Qosmio X305-Q701 gaming laptop is available exclusively at Best Buy stores starting at $1,549.99. Touting its new "fiery" Fusion finish with Rogue design, the Qosmio X305 laptop offers the NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS graphic processing unit (GPU) and other Centrino 2 platform updates: the Intel Core 2 Duo P7350, DDR3 RAM support, and a 1066MHz front-side as well as a large 7200RPM 200GB drive, a 17.1-inch HD display, a full-size keyboard with a 10-key pad, and four Harman Kardon stereo speakers with a built-in subwoofer.

The Qosmio G55-Q802 notebook, also available now, features the Cell-based "TOSHIBA Quad Core HD Processor" which -- when using appropriately rewritten software -- offloads from the CPU multimedia tasks, such as video transcoding (using bundled Ulead DVD Movie Factory 5), up-conversion of standard-definition video files (in real time) to 720p HD, "Video Indexing" ofvideo clips based on an individual's face in a scene, and Gesture Control. It is also available without the TOSHIBA Quad Core HD Processor.

The G55 Qosmio is built around an expansive 18.4-inch diagonal widescreen, sports two premium Harman Kardon stereo speakers, a sub-woofer and Dolby Home Theater technology, and REGZA LINK HDMI output for instant device configuration and unified control. It will be available in $1,549 (2.0GHz T7350/3MB L2 Cache/1066MHz FSB, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 2x250GB drives, NVIDIA 9600M GT/512MB, 802.11b/g/n, DVD SuperMulti Optical) or $1,299 (same config, but 320GB drive and 256MB GPU mem).

Finally, the company is shipping the new Qosmio F55 series: a 15.4-inch notebook that offers built-in Garmin GPS, a NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS graphics card, an all-new Fusion finish with Vibe pattern, two Harman Kardon stereo speakers (including a subwoofer and Dolby Home Theater technology), REGZA LINK HDMI technology, Sleep-and-Charge USB ports, which allow users to charge popular mobile devices when it is powered-on, off or in hibernation mode. One of the Sleep-and-Charge ports also doubles as an eSATA port, which enables the transfer of data and multimedia files to and from an external hard drive at speeds up to five times faster than standard USB 2.0.

The Qosmio F55-Q502 is available in two configs: $1,399.99 (Intel P7350 Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, 320GB drive, DVD SuperMulti, NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS w/512MB, 802b/g/n) and $1,749.99 (same but with upgraded: C2D T9400, 4GB RAM, 2x160GB drives, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR).
