Intel's 1st quad-core mobile chip due August

Intel's first quad-core notebook processor will be ready by next month, says the semiconductor firm's Singapore marketing chief Sujan Kamran. Although the official declines to provide details, the processor is expected to be clocked at 2.53GHz and carry the same 12MB of Level 2 cache as desktop quad-core chips. It would be badged as a Core 2 Extreme processor (the QX9300) despite the clock speed gap between itself and the 3.06GHz dual-core model already made public.

Core 2 Extreme mobile processors have typically used 44 watts of power and are aimed at enthusiasts as well as high-end desktop replacement notebooks, potentially ruling out the quad-core offering for thin-and-light systems. However, one report regarding the 2.53GHz inaugural model suggests it may consume the same 35 watts of thermal peak power as Intel's faster dual-core processors for the Centrino 2 platform, which would allow it to fit in the MacBook Pro and other thin performance systems without overheating or reducing battery life beyond that of pre-update Core 2 processors.

Centrino 2 Macbook Pro

I am waiting for Centrino 2 Macbook Pro to get my foot into WiMax door.

Yes, I know that WiMax and Quad Core Apps are not coming for at least 1 yeas, cause the developers are probably waiting for Snow Leopard.

At least I'll have WiMax built in, as opposed to waiting for someone to make an External Card for it..

It pretty frustrating trying to time this... I crave MacBook Pro, so that I can move from Tiger, 10.4.11 to Latest Leopard, and get iPhone, instead of trying to sync iPhone with 10.4.11, and then go through yet another transition - to Leopard!

NDA's, rumors -- hard to build strategies on.... But the civilians, who probably never read sites like this one, just walk in and buy Macs, clueless to the TIMING! Hey, someone was buying iPhones right before this 3G one came out on 7/11!

If anyone know about the TIMING, TIMELINE on the new MacBook Pro's, please speak out!

Hope they make it EASY to swap HD's and RAM in the new MacBook Pro's, and that they have the biggest capacity 7200 RPM HD's inside! The RAM I'll get from Bob at Other World Computing, as usual....
