Funambol: iPhone syncing

Funambol has released an iPhone plug-in allows "over-the-air" syncing of address book contacts with other mobile phones, free server-based backup and easy contact syncing with Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird and other popular e-mail software. The plug-in works with the iPhone 3G, iPod Touch, and first-gen iPhones upgraded to version 2.0. Funambol -- which calls itself the world's largest open-source mobile messaging platform -- says the plug-in makes it easy to migrate contacts from one phone to another. It also allows users to sync contacts without iTunes or MobileMe.

"One of the first things that iPhone 3G users want is contacts on their phone and they don't want to type them in," said Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO. Users can exchange contacts with more than 1000 mobile devices supported by Funambol.

The iPhone plug-in is free, and requires a free Funambol server account. The plug-in is available now at the iTunes AppStore.
