Nintendo Wii MotionPlus adds real 3D tracking

updated 01:20 pm EDT, Mon July 14, 2008

Nintendo Wii MotionPlus

Nintendo on Monday afternoon made an early start to its E3 game expo plans with the unveiling of the Wii MotionPlus. The add-on to the normal Wii Remote changes the device from its normal, acceleration sensor tracking to true 3D spatial tracking. This lets the Wii register the exact position, angle, and movement of the controller and translate it to a game, the console maker explains.

The company doesn't mention full details and says it will unveil full details at its E3 press confererence on Tuesday, though Nintendo has historically pushed new Wii accessories at the same time as specific games that take advantage of the feature, such as the Wii Balance Board with Wii Fit and its steering wheel with Mario Kart.
