Elgato ships Mac-friendly DVB-T tuner

updated 08:20 am EDT, Tue July 8, 2008

Elgato EyeTV DTT Deluxe

Elgato on Tuesday catered to its European audience through the EyeTV DTT Deluxe. The USB tuner gives viewers access to over-the-air digital broadcasts on DVB-T (Freeview in the UK) in as unintrusive a way as possible, according to the company: the thin stick shape can fit into the USB port of even a MacBook Air without crowding out other devices. A detachable antenna gives strong enough reception for a good signal in less than ideal areas.

The adapter comes with Elgato's EyeTV 3 for viewing and turns a given Mac into a makeshift DVR with the ability to both record live and scheduled shows as well as pause or rewind ongoing shows. As all DVB-T shows are unprotected, they can be converted quickly for iPhones, iPods, and other devices as well as shared on a local network.

Elgato bundles the DTT Deluxe with a remote and an adapter to link it to a rooftop aerial for a strong signal even deep indoors. It ships today for 70 in the UK and 80 for the rest of Europe.
