OS X Glucose management

Animas Corporation this week announced that it has been granted FDA clearance for the OneTouch Ping, a fully Mac OS X compatible glucose management system. With a full-feature insulin pump that wirelessly communicates with a blood glucose meter, the system is run under OS X by Animas's 'ezManager MAX' software. Enabling users to calculate insulin doses and remotely instruct the pump to administer them, the OneTouch Ping gives patients increased and flexibility in their medication management.

The solution is the first collaboration between Animas Corporation and Lifescan -- both companies under the Johnson & Johnson umbrella; the OneTouch Ping offers numerous innovations, including a waterproof (to 12 feet for 24 hours) pump complete with a convenient belt-clip and color screen as well as individualized control that allows precise calculation of dosages -- in basal increments of 0.025 U/hr and bolas increments of 0.05 U. The device also incorporates market leading 'OneTouch Ultra Test Strips' to monitor blood glucose levels.

OneTouch ping is expected to ship in mid-August 2008 (the final retail price has yet to be announced).
