T-Mobile UK intros HSUPA for mobile uploading

T-Mobile UK is set to allow access to an HSUPA data network today that will let users upload content to the Internet via their cellular phones, becoming the UK's first wireless provider to do so across the country. HSUPA, or High Speed Uplink Packet Access, is the equivalent of the commonly-available HSDPA 3G data network except for its uploading abilities.

HSUPA will allow users to upload photos, videos and other files from their phones or laptops over the wireless data network to places on the Internet, but particularly social networking sites, which is seeing a growth, according to T-Mobile UK chief executive Jim Hyde.

At the same time, T-Mobile upgraded its HSDPA network's speed to a theoretical maximum of 7.2Mbps, which translates to a realistic 4.5Mbps. In comparison, maximum speeds for the HSUPA are promised to be 1.4Mbps. T-Mobile UK has not released pricing for HSUPA access. [via ZDNet]
