Swisscom unveils iPhone 3G prices

Swisscom has announced its plans for the iPhone 3G, according to company PR. With the launch of the device on July 11th, Swiss customers will have access to three two-year subscription plans, in three different sizes: piccolo, mezzo and grande. At the piccolo level people will pay 249 CHF for an 8GB phone, or 349 CHF for 16GB; this costs 25 CHF per month, and is limited to a 0.70 CHF hourly voice rate and just 100MB of data per month.

The mezzo plan reduces phone prices to 199 and 299 CHF, and the voice rate to 0.50 CHF. The data cap is raised to 250MB, but at the cost of 35 CHF per month. The grande plan pushes the monthly charge to 55 CHF, but offers 1GB of data, and lower phone costs of 99 and 199 CHF.

Those wanting to be free of contracts can pick the "easy liberty uno" option, which charges 519 or 619 CHF for a prepaid phone. There are no monthly fees, but the hourly rate is the highest at 0.80 CHF, and it costs 1 CHF per megabyte of data used.

Business customers will be able to take advantage of standard rates, with an optional 10 CHF per month fee that covers data traffic.

The prepay version is doable, 320 euro including taxes. That is about $425 (ex TAX).

The prepay option is only expensive because the company is Swisscom, throw out the card and get one from one of the cheaper providers such as Coop or Migros and calling and txting will be a lot less....The data limits are pretty measly I have to say, esp. in a country where broadband is fast and without caps and where the population density is ridiculously high.
