VIA's slim motherboard

Taiwan's VIA Technologies today announced its slimmest Pico-ITX motherboard to date with the EPIA P700 Pico-ITX. To save space, it features an integrated power supply and is meant for use in ultra-compact systems. The P700 also sports in-line I/O pin-headers, Gigabit LAN support and a SATA II interface. The board comes with VIA's VX700 IGP chipset and a choice of a 1GHz C7 or fanless 500MHz Eden ULV processor.

Onboard memory is comprised of one DDR2 slot able of supporting up to 1GB. The VX700 graphics chipset includes VIA's UniChrome Pro II IGP core with 2D/3D AGP graphics and video decoding acceleration for WMV and MPEG-2/4 video. Eight-channel audio and DTS digital surround sound comes thanks to the VT1708B high-definition codec. The motherboard will run on the Windows XP, CE and XP Embedded as well as Linux operating systems.

Two included companion boards allow for extending the motherboard's usability, with the P700-A sporting an Ethernet jack along with VGA and COM connections. The P700-B adds four USB ports and three audio jacks.

While the EPIA P700 Pico-ITX is currently available, VIA has not released pricing information.
