'3 Australia' customers petition for iPhone

Wireless carrier 3 Australia has received a strong surge of interest in carrying the iPhone 3G, a corporate blog claims. On Thursday the carrier posted a message explaining that it has contacted Apple about carrying the 3G, but that it is seeking public response on the issue as a means of getting Apple's attention. Hundreds of mostly positive comments have since been posted on the site, and visitors can currently sign up for e-mail notifications about the iPhone.

At present the only confirmed Australian carriers for the 3G are Optus and Vodafone, both of which will be launching on July 11th. Telstra could also begin sales as soon as July 22nd, but it has not yet announced any iPhone plans. A release from 3 would likely be further delayed, as the company would have to arrange marketing and distribution, and wait for new product shipments from Apple.

Wow, three customers? That's not a movement, that's a landslide!

Yeah, I know the name of the company is 3 Australia, but surely I'm not the only one who read this as "3 Australian customers petition for iPhone."

If Apple succumbs to only '3 Austraia' customers who petition for iPhone, then what, '2 US' customers can petition for a tablet-like Newton and Apple shall deliver? : ) LOL

No, the US has more population, so they would need at least 7 customers petitioning.

They've had "Hundreds" of comments to their blogs, so that's a landslide if nothing else! Unless you're one of those naysayers who'd point out that only people who'd want one would be posting anyway, so 'mostly' positive is kind of expected.

But, come on, there's "hundreds"!

They've already signed?

I was in a 3 store a week or two ago and the staff told me that iPhone 3G is going to be carried by 3. He was very matter-of-fact about it. I don't know whether to believe them though because 3 hasn't made an announcement. I suspect they've already signed with Apple and are doing the poll to generate some interest among 3 users for when the launch goes ahead. Pricing also hasn't been set, so maybe they're looking to see how much interest there is so they can decide on an appropriate price point.
