OpenOSX Grass 6.3.0

Coinciding with its seventh birthday, OpenOSX this week released its latest version of OpenOSX Grass 6.3.0. OpenOSX Grass is based on the longstanding open-source GRASS project (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System), a geographical information system that combines 'raster, vector and geo-spacial processing engines into a unified software suite... allowing for the processing of satellite and aerial imagery into presentation graphics and maps'.

While seen as a preview release for Grass 6.4.0, this latest version of OpenOS X Grass combines over 3,400 major and minor improvements and bug fixes with extensive new features, including a new experimental native Mac OS X GUI that is not dependent on X11 and a QGIS based secondary OS X interface.

The software also offers features available in Grass Pro, such as 'OpenOSX MapServer', a complete, standalone application based on Apache 2.2.8, PHP 5.2.6, PostGIS 1.3.3; and MapServer 5.0.3, which is often used for publishing dynamic, navigatable maps (complete with configurable layers over the Internet').

It includes extensive documentation, tutorials and sample data and is priced at $60; standalone versions of all the titles included in the package are also available from OpenOSX.com

Keep in mind that version runs on X11, and you know how people are about 'non-native' Mac apps.
