AVerMedia launches instant network video recorder

AVerMedia today announced the launch of its EB1704HB WiFi-4 NVR instant network video recorder, meant for use in homes and small businesses. The package includes the Network Video Recorder main unit, a wireless router and four wireless IP cameras that are ready to set-up, with no configuration needed. Because there are no wires, apart from the power cords, AverMedia claims a 10-minute set up time. The system features motion-detecting sensors that trigger recording to make efficient use of hard drive space.

Videos are encoded in the MPEG-4 format at up to 720x480 resolution. A hard disk drive needs to be purchased separately for the WiFi-4 to record videos, and a CCTV, LCD or TV monitor is required for playback.

An alerts feature allows users to get updates on the system's operation via their cell phones, PDAs or computers. Administrators can then view what the cameras see via an Internet interface, view footage on supported cell phones and both see and hear what the cameras see on their PDAs. The alerts can be triggered via external sensors that include smoke or motion detectors. The system can also be configured to lock doors, turn on lights and trigger external alarm systems, among other functions.

The EB1704HB WiFi-4 is currently available, although AVerMedia has not announced pricing for the system.
