iPhone 2.0 firmware finished by Friday?

iPhone 2.0 on Friday?

The final iPhone 2.0 firmware could be complete as soon as Friday, rumors say. A report cites a source within Apple's iPhone software team, who claims it is "highly probable" that the firmware's gold master -- official production version -- will be finished by the end of the work week. This version would be following build 345, which enables new code-signing and encryption options.

According to the report the Friday deadline is only planned, however, and the completion of the firmware does not mean that it will be immediately distributed to the public via iTunes. The first to receive the firmware would likely be developers, who would receive it approximately two weeks before the deployment of the iPhone 3G. The firmware will also be compatible with current 2.5G iPhones.

    useless

First, it's a 'probable' date, and so it "may" be finished then (like I "may" be taking a super-model out on Friday).

Second, it doesn't take a testudo to figure out that, if Apple is going to sell the iPhone in two-plus weeks, they better finalize that OS, oh, sometime real soon now.

Third, there's no way it would appear on iTunes before the iPhone 3G is released. It will be all tied together. iPhone 3G, iPhone OS 2.0, iPod Touch 2.0, and MobileMe. All in a couple of weeks.

BTW, I'm assuming the iPhones are already in their boxes ready to go, so the 'final' version will be downloaded/installed when you first sync it to your computer.

    good point

That is a good point. I really hope iPhones work out of the box, and you dont have to go home and then do a 160 meg download for it to work...

I think that they will give it to their top developers, though, so that with the launch of the App Store there will be tested applications for the 2.0 software available right away.

Cool and I bet still no copy and paste for developers to test.
