JVC to launch industry's thinnest Full HD LCD TVs

JVC recently announced it will launch the industry's thinnest LCDs with built-in TV tuners. At 2.9 inches deep at the center, slimming down to 1.5 inches at the edges, the 42-inch LT-42SL89 and the 46-inch LT-46SL89 offer 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution. At the same time, JVC claims the new sets are lighter and consume less power than traditional LCD TVs, thanks to a new backlight panel and power supply substrate, respectively.

The new TVs join the company's Procision range, and their slimness is achieved thanks to newly developed backlight unit and power supply substrate. The backlight is 40 percent slimmer than the old panel, and weighs in at 26.5lbs while consuming 145W. The slimmer backlight was made possible not with more parts but with a more efficient integration of them, JVC says. The low power consumption was accomplished via the use of a direct-mount power substrate that does not use a fan to dissipate heat.

Connections on either set will comprise three HDMI, two component, one S-Video in and a PC input. The front panels will sport touch sensor controls instead of buttons, there will be an integrated headphone jack, along with a USB port for viewing photos. An illuminated universal remote will be able to control other components of buyers' home theater set-ups.

Both sets will launch in July, with the LT-42SL89 priced at nearly $1900 and the LT-46SL89 carrying a $2400 sticker.
