Red Giant announces Radium Glow plug-in suite

updated 12:15 pm EDT, Mon June 23, 2008

Red Giant's Radium Glow

Red Giant Software has announced Radium Glow, a new 3D glow simulator that goes beyond simple blurring effects. Instead of just adding simple blur, the software gives pinpoint control over the glow effect and has edge effects, masking and output functions. The three included plug-ins add neon-style effects and can be combined with Red Giant's Trapcode Particular (the company's separate 3-D particle plug-in) and other plug-ins to give sparkle and shimmer effects. Radium Glow is available now for $100 and works with on Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later, on After Effects, Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, Motion and Avid AVX.

Radium Glow's area-specific selection tools allow users to focus glow at the brightest points of the image. Creating glow at bright focal points provides natural halos and sparkles that other glow effects cannot manage, according to Red Giant. The three plug-ins include Glow, offering advanced masking and intensity controls, Glow Lite, for basic glow effects and Glow Edge, for applying glow to edge areas. The plug-in creates glows based on references to shapes, and includes simple shapes like stars and circles, as well as a library of 10 other shapes. It can also act on user generated images as shapes for unique designs.

Radium Glow 1.0 is multi-core aware (utilizing 2-, 4-, 6- or 8-cores) and works with 8-bit and 16-bit output. The plug-in works on Adobe CS3-level After effects and Premier Pro, Apple's Final Cut Pro 6 and 5.1.4 and Motion 3.02 as well as Avid's Xpress Pro 5.6 and 5.7 and Media Composer 2.6 and 2.7. It is also available on the Windows platform (XP and Vista).
