Thursday, June 19thNVIDIA quietly reveals GeForce 9800 GTX+
NVIDIA today addressed the sudden performance gaps created by the GeForce GTX 200 with a new mid-range video chipset. The GeForce 9800 GTX+ has the same two-slot design as the earlier 9800 GTX but uses NVIDIA's smaller and more efficient 55 nanometer technology to ramp up clock speeds: a reference card's core speed increases from 675MHz to 738MHz while shaders jump from 1688MHz to 1836MHz. Both are intended to give the card better performance against AMD's upcoming ATI Radeon HD 4850 launching later this month.
Memory speeds drop slightly to help reach a similar price, dropping from a 1.1GHz actual speed on the current 9800 GTX to exactly 1GHz with the GTX+ version. Support will remain in place for two- and three-way setups using SLI, NVIDIA says, as will two dual-link DVI ports and an S-video connection. The new board should be available through several card manufacturers soon and has an estimated price of $229 that puts it in direct contention with the AMD chipset. Shipments of the GTX+ should start in mid-July through third parties and should also involve reference cards for some larger PC builders.

WOW! Another upgrade card that only works with a $2,700 MacPro or any Windows desktop machine.
I should run out right now and drop over $2,700 in Apples pocket so I can buy a $230 graphics card.

Hey, don't you understand that 99% of the people out there don't have any need but for the integrated graphics cards apple provides in their products!
yes and no
if you feel that you must have a machine whose graphics can be upgraded then buy a tower. if not, then you knew what you were getting when you bought it.
it would be -nice- to have upgradable graphics in an imac, but frankly I doubt that there's room in there for a double-wide video card that is specifically designed to fit inside a tower case which can adequately provide cooling.
oh, wait--you want eat your cake and have it too! oh, to have the power of a mondo-card but the form factor of a laptop.
next you'll want a Quadro card in a MacBook Air, or a Mac mini, or your laptop, or...
Double-wide...
...is not only the form factor of the card but describes bloggerblog's home. Testudo is in the 99% of people who has no need for any of this foolishness, and appreciates any article not about the iPhone.
I just hope this helps bump Nvidia's flagging stock price a bit, as I could use the extra cash to buy some real graphics power for my $3500 Mac Pro.

Given that even the cheapest phones these days are more powerful than the phones Symbian (EPOC) was developed for, why is Nokia wasting their energy on maintaining the crippled toy operating system on the low end phones and not just using Symbian everywhere?
