Kaleidescape debuts new 1080p video players

updated 01:35 pm EDT, Wed June 18, 2008

Kalediescape 1080p players

Kaleidescape, a builder of server-based home theater systems, has released two expansion units for its platform. The 1080p Player is designed to slot into a 1U rack, and upscales to maximum possible resolution, whether sourcing movies from digital copies or DVDs loaded into its optical drive. Internal processing handles functions such as automatic widescreen enlargement, and users can import movies and music directly from the Player, without having to walk over to another unit.

The 1080p Mini Player is similar in concept, but entirely dependent on files from a Kaleidescape server, which are streamed via an Ethernet connection. The device is however considerably smaller, and can either be stood free or mounted on walls or furniture using an included bracket. The 1080p Player is shipping now, while the Mini Player is due in July; prices are available only from Kaleidescape or third-party dealers.
