MCE brings 500GB HD to MacBooks, case for old one

MCE has released its 500GB MobileStor Performance Hard Drive Upgrade Solution for MacBooks and MacBook Pros. The kit includes a 5400RPM SATA drive, a portable USB 2.0 enclosure for the old drive and everything needed to make the swap. MCE says the MobileStor has a sustained data transfer rate over 85 MB/sec and a burst transfer rate of 150MB/sec.

MCE says the drive supports S.M.A.R.T. status monitoring and includes something called "Native Command Queuing" in which the drive reorders commands in the most efficient way based on where data are being stored on the various platters. The idea is to reduce latency times when the data are accessed. MCE’s MobilStor is available now for $329.
