Spore Creature Creator
Electronic Arts has released the Mac edition of the Spore Creature Creator, a preview of Maxis' upcoming real-time strategy title. In the full game players will guide a species through a simplified evolutionary history, taking it from the microbial level through to tribes and cities, and eventually interstellar colonization. A focus of Spore is on designing each new stage, gradually adding better and/or different features to lifeforms, buildings and vehicles.
The Creature Creator demonstrates one of the design tools, which lets players build a simple land-based species. Gamers can pick from an assortment of basic parts and assemble them in different ways, molding and coloring for a unique appearance; the software then generates animations based on anatomy. The trial version restricts users to 25 percent of the full Creator's parts, but does let users upload species to the Sporepedia, and record videos for uploading to YouTube.
The trial Creator is free, while the complete version is $10. Spore itself is scheduled to ship September 5th in Europe, and September 7th in North America and Asia.

Meh
Looks like Cider still has some bugs to be ironed out. Trying this on a MacBook Pro (2.2ghz Core2Duo, 2gb RAM, GeForce 8600M GT 128mb VRAM) I get a page fault immediately on launch.
Maybe I'll buy this game for the Wii, but I've just lost a lot of the interest I had in this game. I support the use of any tech that brings more quality software to the Mac, but if the devs are willing to put out half-assed software that kinda works..well I have plenty of things competing for my time and interest. No need to waste time and money on a c*** experience.
