NEC intros two projectors

NEC on Tuesday announced details on two network projectors ahead of their debut at the InfoComm 2008 show in Las Vegas which kicks off tomorrow. The NP905 offers 1024x768 (XGA) native resolution, while the NP901W features WXGA (1280x800) resolution, but both max out at 1600x1200 (UXGA). Either of the identical-looking units is compatible with Windows Vista via the Windows Network Projector support, allowing for wired or wireless network connections with laptops or PCs without the need for any specialized software.

The presentation projectors are rated at 3000 lumens (NP905) and 2000 lumens (NP901W) of brightness, and each features NEC's geometric correction function that allows images to be projected on objects such as spheres and cylinders without distortion. The company's de-interlacing Silicon Optix HQV software is integrated into both units, improving qualities in movies by removing motion artifacts.

The NP905's other specs comprise a 500:1 contrast ratio and 1.2-times optical zoom. The NP901W's respective numbers are 400:1, identical 1.2-times optical zoom and the same keystone correction and wall color adjustment.

Closed captions are built in for the hearing impaired. An instant shut-down feature allows the projector to be moved quickly, also made easier on account of a built-in carrying handle. USB ports on either unit allow a mouse and keyboard to be hooked up for controlling the attached computer. On the other side, users can adjust the projectors' settings via their computers over the network.

Video connections include an HDMI 1.3, two VGA, RCA and S-Video inputs, while audio inputs and outputs are basic RCAs and mini stereo plugs. A 5W speaker is integrated into each unit.

The NP905 retails for nearly $2,000, while the NP901W is priced at $1,300, and both will be available for sale in July.
