Palm Centro hits Canada through Rogers

updated 11:05 am EDT, Mon June 16, 2008

Palm Centro at Rogers

Rogers today became the first Canadian provider to pick up the Palm Centro. Similar to the version available through AT&T, this variant on Palm's smallest and most inexpensive smartphone runs on EDGE networks and comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, microSD storage, as well as a larger-than-normal bundle of software such as DocumentsToGo (for Office and PDF files), Google Maps for Mobile, and Exchange push mail support.

Unusually, Rogers has yet to announce pricing or ship dates, though the release hints that the provider may opt for a blue color rather than AT&T's white. The phone is normally available in the US for $99 on contract and is likely to see similar pricing but with a longer three-year contract.

    Three-Year Contract...

Its quite sad to see how the Canadian telcos take advantage of us here. Were the only country in the developed world that offers such long contract lengths. And while you could choose a 2 or 1 year (or none if ya got the cash) contract, they stiff you with not only lack of incentives, they also penalize you by making certain plans (the most popular and some-what good looking ones of course..) unavailable unless you sigh on this soul-sucking 3 year agreement. That Palm should be around $49.99 with that kind of contract length. Pfft.. a*******
