CLC ships Genomics Workbench 1.0

updated 04:40 pm EDT, Thu June 12, 2008

CLC Genomics Workbench 1.0

CLC bio has released the first version of Genomics Workbench, a software suite which analyzes data from "all the major" NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) platforms, including SOLiD, Solexa and HeliScope. The application is also claimed to analyze NGS information faster than it is created, through use of a faster SIMD-accelerated assembly algorithm. Once this data is ready, visualization lets users spot genetic changes such as inversions and duplications.

Genome assembly views support zooming, sequencing reads, quality information and reference sequences. Reads can be filtered and trimmed as necessary. The software requires Mac OS X 10.4, along with an Intel Mac and at least 256MB of RAM, though 2GB is mandatory for some tasks while 4 or 8GB is recommended. Over the 2GB mark, users should also be running Mac OS X 10.5 or better. Businesses and schools must contact CLC for prices.
