Google CEO clarifies position at Apple
Google CEO and Apple board member Eric Schmidt on Wednesday offered his point of view as Apple and Google's wireless strategies are set to compete later this year when the latter company's Android mobile platform sees store shelves through various mobile manufacturers. According to MarketWatch, Schmidt notes that while both companies share common goals in the wireless market, his role at Apple has not compromised by plans for Android, "so far."
Schmidt is sometimes called away from Apple board meetings to deal with details on Android, but he says it's "not as common as it sounds," recalling one or two instances in which this was required.
When quizzed about his presence at both companies, Schmidt claimed that despite his influence at Apple and Google, the iPhone OS and Android "will likely be quite different", while avoiding details.

Not quiet...
While we appreciate the "open" attitude of Mr. Schmidt, it is very much impossible for a person to be on two boats at the same time. You cannot row them both together. Finally you will have to let go one.
Quiet frankly he should resign from either of the companies. At least that would be some moral action. But then everything is fair in love and war (business).

"Schmidt is sometimes called away from Apple board meetings to deal with details on Android"
Fact is that Schmidt is sometimes asked to be excused from Apple board meetings, when salient details of the iPhone are being discussed by the board -- that is how the original article reads.
Maybe MacNN should employ folks whose native language is English, when it comes to transcribing news reports.

When Steve decides to leave day-to-day ops at Apple and step down as CEO, I'd love to see Eric step in and take the reigns. I love Google's corporate philosophy and the way they are always working to make their stuff better.
