Verizon's LG Dare, more take on iPhone 3G

updated 09:45 am EDT, Wed June 11, 2008

LG Dare Decoy Chocolate 3

Verizon on Wednesday responded in kind to the iPhone 3G with the unveiling of three new LG phones. The Dare is the second LG touchscreen phone at the US carrier but relies exclusively on its touch input rather than offering a hardware keyboard; it also represents a camera upgrade with a 3.2-megapixel sensor (up from 2.0) with better low-light handling and on-phone editing similar to the Viewty and other Europe-only phones.

Timing now has the Dare launch at near the same time as the iPhone 3G with a ship date sometime in July; Verizon is short on specific details and expects to release pricing closer to the actual launch date.

The launch also includes the Chocolate 3, is the latest version of LG's music phone series and switches to a clamshell design while keeping the jogwheel for selecting tracks; it also has stereo speakers for audio without headphones and carries 1GB of memory inside in addition to whatever is loaded into the microSD slot. The 2-megapixel camera phone debuts at Verizon shops in July.

A final device, the Decoy, a more conventional slider device revolving around a detachable Bluetooth earpiece that offers hands-free calling without forcing the user to buy or keep a separate device. The phone comes with a 2-megapixel camera and is due to ship the earliest of the phone trio on June 16th.

    sounds to me....

....more like the usual legal language to make sure the company is absolved of any liability...

"applications may not be designed or marketed for real time route guidance; automatic or autonomous control of vehicles, aircraft, or other mechanical devices; dispatch or fleet management; or emergency or life-saving purposes."

    Slapdash

What a slapdash shoddy layout on the copy of the iPhone.

    If they throw up...

enough clones, copies, substitutes, lookalikes and alternatives to the iPhone, they might just get lucky and sell a few handsets. Verizon needs to do everything it possibly can to steal away customers from ATT. I think they're just wasting their time.

    The winner....

The winner of this war is going to get the cost of the service down. It doesn't really matter how much the device costs, the lower service price (especially a substantially lower service price) will win.

    OK Then

Look at all of the Mac crazies coming out of the woodwork. I'm a person who enjoys the iphone and all of the cool features that go with it, but i also enjoy good quality service, so i think I'm going to stick with Verizon. And until Mac gets there c*** straight and makes the iphone available for a much better service providers, I'm going to try anything new that comes out for Verizon.
Thank you for your insight you crazies, but I'm pretty sure you all know I'm right.

As the guy above me said. Who cares about a cool phone with crappy service? Verizon has the best network by far. Can you hear me now? GOOD!!!
