O2 told to 'prepare' for June 9th announcement?

O2 is being told to "prepare" for a major announcement on June 9th, a British site claims. Pocket-lint cites "industry sources," who say that Apple has warned the phone carrier about the date, which coincides with the beginning of its 2008 WWDC conference in San Francisco. O2 is the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

It is believed by a number of analysts that a 3G iPhone will be revealed at WWDC, during an opening keynote by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Evidence has included the likes of rapidly dwindling 2.5G stock, European discounts timed to end in June, and references to new hardware in the upcoming iPhone 2.0 firmware. Apple itself has made no acknowledgments, but AT&T admitted early this year that a 3G iPhone would be available before 2009.
