MSI formalizes Wind for US, ships June 16

updated 07:15 am EDT, Tue June 3, 2008

MSI Wind Launch Firmed Up

MSI this morning finalized the US specs and details for the Wind, its entry into micro notebooks. The 10-inch, LED-backlit system is available in Linux and Windows versions that share virtually identical features: at the center is a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor that MSI claims will net each Wind as much as 5.5 hours of battery life, or much more than systems based on older Celeron processors. Each also comes with an 80GB hard drive rather than flash memory.

Other extras included on the systems include the 1.3-megapixel webcam mounted into the lid, a four-in-one card reader, and a magnifying tool in software to improve the view of small items on the 1024x600 resolution display.

MSI notes that both systems are available with a black, pink, or white outer lid; the Windows version ships with 1GB of memory to meet its extra performance overhead and ships first, arriving June 16th for $499. The Linux version halves the memory to 512MB but will be available later in the summer for $399.
