.Mac name change confirmed?

Earlier reports of .Mac receiving a major makeover appear to be all but confirmed, as developers and enthusiasts find proof of a .Mac name change to Mobile Me. The Coding Robots blog reveals that the new iPhone SDK also contains information specific to the .Mac restructuring. Deep in the SDK, in a file entitled "Main.strings", a definition at the beginning of the file states "MOBILE_ME_SERVICE_NAME", while a PNG graphic file called "mobileMeAlbum.png" sits within the PrivateFrameworks directory.

An individual identified as Jamie Marshall also found that Mobileme.com is currently parked by MarkMonitor.com, the domain registration service that Apple uses for its URLs, including Apple.com

I agree. The first thing I thought of was Windows ME when I first read the new name.

Perhaps they're going to call it "Moble *your-name-here." I'll admit, my first reaction was literally, "Eeeeww," but the name "Mobile Dan" sounds more in line with the new .Mac mantra- It's your digital life to go.

Something tells me they'll revise it again before their through. Apple has more class than that.

I just threw up a little in my mouth. The de-Macification continues.

Before you all get your panties in a bunch, keep in mind what you're seeing here are comments and constant names, not the actual strings. Mobile_me can just as easily be an internal name they're using while the marketing num-nuts put their heads together to come up with whatever name they really want to call it.

In fact, it's really stupid to change the comments or names internally, as its just a waste of time, since it doesn't matter what the code calls it, the name will come from a resource file somewhere.
