Griffin unveils PowerDock multi-iPod chargers

iPod accessory manufacturer Griffin Technology on Thursday unveiled the PowerDock 2 and PowerDock 4, a new dual- and quad-slot charger for the iPod and iPhone. The PowerDock gives iPod owners two to four dock connectors with eight universal bezel adapters to hold and charge two iPods or iPhones at the same time. The brushed aluminum stand features a rubber bottom to prevent slipping. Griffin is selling the PowerDock 2 for $50, while the PowerDock 4 is selling for $70.

Griffin says the PowerDocks are both certified to work with both iPhones and iPods, and works on 100 to 240V AC.

How universal?

So, these "universal bezel adapters," how "universal" are they? Odds on that they won't hold an iPod touch that is inside one of Griffin's own excellent protective cases. The same case that has kept me from using my Apple iPod dock, my iPod car holder, and from considering buying Griffin's own iTrip as a replacement.

The case, which would have to be pried open with a coin is rarely ever removed from the iPod, as it has provided excellent protection and I can't afford to replace the iPod right now if anything happened to it... So it has been preventing me from using most iPod accessories, including those from Griffin. I hope that they have made this product compatible with their other products, but I doubt it.
