XPERIA X1 to pack 256MB RAM, 10-hour battery

updated 03:35 pm EDT, Tue May 27, 2008

XPERIA X1 White Paper

Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 smartphone will be one of the company's most powerful when it ships later this year, says a just-published white paper (PDF) from the company. The Windows Mobile 6.1 device will have twice as much memory as most any other smartphone at 256MB and will also carry 512MB of built-in flash storage on top of whatever is added through the microSD slot.

The phone will also be long-lived, Sony Ericsson claims. A battery charge should last for as long as 10 hours of continuous talking on GSM phone networks and will still muster 6.5 hours of calling on networks that use UMTS-based 3G networks for voice. Video calling and other very data-intensive tasks are expected to roughly halve the 3G figure.

Other features of the phone remain intact, including its 800x480 touch display, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and support for the full HSPA spec for mobile broadband. Sony Ericsson still doesn't offer a definite release window for its first XPERIA but is rumored to be launching the device towards the end of the summer, and may include AT&T as one of its first launch partners. Nice brand new suit, but with torn, dirty underwear hiding underneath - that's what the Xperia is, due to its use of MS Pocket Internet Explorer, the crappiest browser in existence. Anyone that needs internet access and compares the Xperia to the iPhone running Mobile Safari, or even any other smartphone running Opera Mobile won't be choosing this thing.
